Recording Problems Part 2

Thanks everyone!

Here's some more scoop about our recording environment:

We are a group of four radio stations with a heavy audio production load. I just came on board a couple of months ago as Production Director. The studio is set up with Tedwin (a miserable, old program built for Windows 3.0)and SawPro, a mutitrack package, which, in my opinion, is really not well suited to the type of workload we're saddled with. Tedwin is a more user-friendly editing environment, so the drill has been to record and edit individual WAV file tracks in Tedwin, and then export the tracks to SawPro for mixdown. And, check this out, every time we use TwdWin, we have to reboot, or SawPro won't play back. In spite of that on-going glitch, our Chief of Tech Ops (a very sharp guy) does not think we have a software/driver conflict...at least we're not seeing one.

We do not use the standard Windows mixer, but, rather, a custom mixer provided with our Antex LX-44 sound card, which appears to be working just fine.

We have signal indication on the Vegas record meters when the tracks are armed. Everything appears to be normal...just no waveform and nothing recorded.

We're using Vegas 2.0a, build 323.

Our board is an Audiotronics Series 210 Radio Production console.

This studio is an all digital environment, with the exception of one reel-to-reel which we occasionally have to use.

Thanks again for the responses, hope to hear more from you all.

Radioguy.

For starters, you are encouraged to download and install the latest Vegas update, version 2.0g. That may not solve your problem, but at least you'll have the current release, which makes diagnosis much easier.

Also: Have you set your audio routing prefs properly? Incorrect settings there would account for the "no input" behavior you are seeing.

So, just as an example, you have a music bed playing and your trying to lay down some copy. You can hear the music bed and your voice(your input) but, no wave file is being created while you do this. You have armed the track and the track meter reacts to your input.
When you press stop, does the window that asks you to delete or be "done" pop up? Does Vegas think it has recorded something?
Sorry for asking more questions but, sometimes that is how you get answers.
