Recording Problems Part 3

Hey, everyone...

Thanks to all (especially Theron3) for responding.

To answer your questions, Theron3, yes...when recording into an armed track, there is every indication that Vegas is hearing me (i.e., the meters work just fine), but no waveform, no playback and no window pops up when I stop recording.

RobSoul wrote, saying he suspects a software conflict. I tend to agree. I need my System Administrator to dig into that, as I do not have access to install/uninstall programs.

Quick example of why I have to get this resolved. Yesterday, it took me FOUR HOURS to produce a 60 second commercial. And this is after I had already laid in the tracks. This was simply in the final mixdown phase of the project. Granted, it was a bit complex, but I could've knocked it out on an analog tape deck in a lot less time. Saw Pro just isn't up to this kind of work. (Great looking graphic interface, though...I'll give them that!)

Here's how I'd suggest you approach making your next 60-second ad:

Since you know it takes you four hours anyway, I'd spend 3 hours bugging your System Administrator to uninstall the other apps, it'll take about 30 minutes for him to do it and to re-install Vegas, and then you can get your entire ad done in the last 30-minutes with Vegas.

I'd have to agree with Robsoul in that you should attack the office politics and get Vegas on a clean system. If you can do this, you've narrowed the possible problems in a huge way.
Have fun dealing with egos, bind loyalty and the ever-present resistance to change. After that, have fun making killer spots and improving the on air quality of your station.
Theron.
