If the audio problem affects all your programs, it is clearly not a problem within Vegas Pro, rather with your computer and/or Windows 11 settings.

In Windows 11 Personalize, go to System / Sound and have a look at what settings are there for Output and Input as well as the Advanced settings. You'll probably need to do some testing to find out what the settings for your computer should be in order to everything working as you want.

Since the behavior is the same in other audio recording software on your PC, it is very likely something in Windows.. Confirm that the USB interface is the default device in sound settings > 'Recording'. There was also a 'Privacy' setting in Win 10 that commonly prevented audio from being recording. I do not know if that parameter exists in Win 11.. it probably does,

My guess is the driver for your recording device is not compatible with Windows 11. Check your device manufacturer's website and see if there is an updated windows 11 driver available for your device.

thankyou for the answers, i am leaning towards the driver problem, and ill look for a privacy setting but in 10 i didnt change any setting and no customer support for driver problems except to pay 10 to 100$ to fix the problem which is frustrating on a 2 week old computer

i was told by micosoft that the reason sony vegas doesnt work is because it is not compatible with windows 11 or needs an upgrade, which i would upgrade to a windows compatable version if they had one

If you've got Sony Vegas Pro, then that means that your version of Vegas Pro must be 13 or earlier because Sony sold the Vegas line of products to MAGIX in 2016.

Vegas Pro 20, the current release, is compatible with both Windows 10 and 11. Please see Vegas Pro 20's specification requirements in https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/specifications/#productMenu

If you haven't already used an upgrade option on your current version of Vegas Pro (even if a Sony version), you may be eligible for upgrade pricing. If you go through the upgrade purchase process, that process will let you know if you have upgrade eligibility. A subscription offer is also available but is a fixed price offer regardless of any previous ownership.

Later builds of Vegas Pro 19 and Vegas Pro 20 are tested to work with Windows 11.

Dexcon wrote on 1/3/2023, 4:09 AM

Interestingly, the same issue about the inability to record audio in Movie Studio 17 using Windows 11 has just been asked on the MAGIX forum - https://www.magix.info/us/forum/windows-11--1312068/#ca1838252

If this is indeed the case for Movie Studio 17 (and therefore presumably earlier versions), and unless someone comes up with a solution/workaround, the unfortunate choice would appear to be either to go back to Windows 10 or to move on to another video editor such as Vegas Pro 20 which any Movie Studio user will find very familiar because Movie Studio was a trimmed down version of Vegas Pro. With VMS17 we don't know for sure that recording doesn't work. The Magix forum poster has been asked to post here so we can investigate his problem and maybe find a solution.
