Red Boxes on timeline

I have downloaded video files from my Sony DSC-T30 digital camera to my hard drive. I have opened the files and placed them on the timeline using Vegas Explorer. They are MOV.MPG files. Having edited the project I have found that some of the events turn red and it is impossible to render and complete the project. I have tried cutting the time down to 15 minutes and splitting the project in two but that doesn't work either. Sometimes the error message relates to low memory sometimes to files that cannot be found and sometimes it states that the device is in use. Very confusing. I am running a new Alienware computer with all the bells and whistles. Seems to work fine with avi files. Could it be a MOV.MPG issue. Any ideas?

Whenver I get the red frames, it means that I am having a hard drive issue or my media has been corrupted. I would try recapturing it. Are you sure you have the appropriate codec? Have you captured from that camera before? I am assuming it is a still camera right?

The camera is a digital still camera that takes video also. The strange thing is that each time I open the project it is different events that get marked in red. If I shut down the computer and reboot then eventually I mange to get the whole project showing properly. When you say codec what do I need to do to have the right one?
Thanks for the quick response.

Take a look in your camera's manual to see what it uses to encode video. It could be that you have a codec that halfway does the job but is not the right one. Once you find out what codec is being used, download an encoder (might cost money). You can also do a google search for software that will allow you to drag and drop the file onto an icon that will tell you exactly what codec is used. I do not remember the name but I am sure a google search would bring it up relatively quickly. More than likely, it uses mjpeg. Do a search here (the search below the blue bar with the word Forums in it) for mjpeg and limit it to the vegas forum. There have been several posts about this.
