Red Cast in DVD+R vs. DVD-R?

I note that when I use Vegas+DVD and a Sony DRU100AX burner to make a DVD+R or +RW, the reds border on oversaturation, but when I do the same burn to a DVD-R or -RW, I get almost exactly what I see in preview before burning. Anyone else have this experience? I don't think it's the software--I suspect either that the Sony burner has a bias somehow toward DVD-Rs, or the media (reds on TDK and not on Memorex) are to "blame."

Not that I have the answer, but I'm just curious. Why do you want to use +R instead of -R DVDs?

Subjective and anecdotal experience. I showed a trailer of the first part of the DV film project I'm working on, at a cast party, and the proprietor couldn't get a DVD+R to play. My home DVD player (a JVC) also has much trouble reading a +R disc but plays the -R every time. I'm trying to insure that whatever DVD I later submit to film festivals will play--although I'm on the verge of sending one of each format to the festivals, since you only get one chance to make a first impression.

This is hard to believe. It's only writing 1s and 0s. I don't see how the image can be skewed one way or the other.

So, based on your experiences, why not forget the +R altogether?

I agree with Gary. For the life of me, I can't image why the color would be off based on media.

As they say, back to the la-bor-a-tor-y. I'll retest and repost if I find the gremlin.

If you find the gremlin be sure to kill it so it doesn't reproduce and spread to other computers :) I think if you get it wet that will do the trick from what I can remember.

I don't know why either but, from what I had experienced ,Sony SVHS players always bled more Red than any other players I had....even with the same tape. So this new news didn't surprise me...maybe they like the color red?!?
I have the same burner but haven't burn on +R yet...thanks for the heads-up!

I agree. Therefore, it must be something to do with the DVD player. Have you used the same player for both +R and -R? How is it connected to the TV? (Can you use 3 component cables?)

I'd have to suspect the player end first and try to rule out by trying other players, especially different manufacturers.
