RED footage, color differences from REDCINE-X to Vegas Pro 14

I have never been able to figure this out, even in previous versions of Vegas. How RED (.r3d) files appear natively/raw in REDCINE-X, they don't appear the same in Vegas. The color/contrast/curves in them changes somehow and I can never narrow down exactly what is happening, or correct it effectively. It would be nice to drag them in and have them remain the same honestly. The below pictures illustrate what I am referring to, specifically with scenes with highlights in them, however it effects all shots in one way or another. I have seen this on RED DSMC1 cameras (RED Epic, Dragon, so on), and now RED DSMC2 (Raven, Scarlet-W, so on).

Anyone have any ideas? I'd like a fix, not just to color correct them to appear raw.

What are your detailed project settings in Vegas Pro?

You might try if switching to a linear, full level floating point project with ACES RTT (sRGB) view transformation helps.

Also, you could compare how the R3D Decode Properties are handled in REDCINE-X compared to Vegas Pro.
To do so in Vegas Pro, right-click an R3D file in window "Project Media" and select "File Properties" (the second to last option of the context menu).

If the cause isn't in the R3D Decode Properties, maybe it is only a preview difference. But I suspect Vegas Pro still doesn't support newer RED SDKs.

Edit:

I just compared with REDCINE-X Pro and to me it looks like Vegas Pro does not read some of the R3D metadata (like Look Image Color Space or Look Curve data).

From my memory Vegas only allows one to select color 1 or color 2 on r3d files .RedCine-X I believe defaults to Dragoncolor. Vegas is way behind in this, I reported it to Sony 2.5 years ago. If you select redcolor 1 or 2 in RedCine-X and the same in Vegas, do they match?

Doesnt appear I have Redcolor 1 or 2 anymore in redcine-x, only redcolor 4, dragoncolor2, rec2020, rec709, and srgb

You are correct, I suspect Redcolor1 and 2 were removed from RedCine-X several versions ago. Howvere if you are looking at the same R3d files in RedDragoncolor in RedCine-X, and in color 1 or 2 in Vegas, this might explain the different appearance. Maybe Magix will update Vegas and we can see if this fixes the problem?
