Just watched it. Great tutorial. I like being able to stuff in Vegas without having to go into AE.

Nice clean graphics and interesting how he used the gradient as a mask and not an overlay

Pity he din’t refer to the mirror fx pretty neat tool for this type of comp I use it a lot except the floor in 3d as overlay so you can control the colour of the floor

For the other speed ramp clip using velocity envelopes nice tut although I always place my node at the point of impact and work back from their so extend the clip backward a few extra frames place an extra node move that node up or down so that the point of impact happens at the right point and time then crimp the clip back in rather than moving the clip back or forward as this doesn’t make sense because everything else will be out of sync

Hopefully we will get some more from DJ

NICE ONE

Thanks for sharing... :-)

So easy :-)

Proves again Vegas's versatility and easy to work with :-)

Wish he would have turned it to 0 alpha so that the reflection didn't get black, but just blended with the rest of the color. and I would have made all planes 3D so that it had a bit more depth reality, but generally decent tutorial. I always enjoy his tutes, and I hung out with him for a while at a show in florida last year. Pretty nice guy, lot of fun to chat with, and I'm glad to see he's representen for the Vegas Pro :)

I liked the use of the "cloud" in a reflection. Time to power-up Particle Illusion I think!!!

I agree with Rory: Start with the finish. But as a "sketch" to get things working we, as Comp-Eds need to keep the Idea fresh and that's done by sketching sketching and even more sketching. Mustn't let the workflow get in-between me and my idea - yeah?

Great point on recognising the need to carry 3-D thru the mix. And this is:

1] Perspective must be preserved

2] Faded colour layers to the far

3] Parallax

BTW I tried to d/l this 24 hours back. IE and FF not playing ball and I gave up. I had to d/l the MP4 and play in VLC.

Why use Perspective on a Reflection? OK, having a light source from behind would do this - but on a reflect? Sure, poetic licence and a "tilt" at optical physics, but does this add or detract from my human/mammalian experience. Jarring is good and breaking rules is great too. But perspective on a reflect? On this example . . eh .. not so much . .

I get your point Grazie the reflection is getting your attention more than the text

When Xerxes sent messengers he would never send them overly embellished lest they became more important than the actual message and detracted from the message
I have to keep reminding myself of this when using text in video but sometimes we just wanna have fun

Fun? FUN? F U N ??? - this is not about FUN!! It is about following the rules and . .. .

nurse bring Grazie's meds - NOW!!!

Serious point here? This IS a tutorial - Q: When is a tutorial an infomercial?

Just wanted to give time for some "reflection" and put a new "perspective" on this - yeah?

Grazie

I'd love to see Xerxes' face if he were to see a modern city skyline obscured by giant posters of tv newsreaders.

Hey, irrespective of the desirablily of reverse perspective on reflections, I really enjoyed seeing a Vegas tutorial by Digital Juice!

You might get your wish to see more of them.
Eric released one called Changing VideoTraxx HD Speeds: Speed Ramping in Vegas a few days ago.
It may be old news to some of us but others may find it useful.

Some random babbling/ thoughts on the perspective thing.

1) The eye is drawn to things that look wrong.

2) If you try to make it look real and don't pull it off it can look worse than if you didn't try at all

3) If they look wrong enough we know they're not real, we accept it. This could be safer than 2)

4) HD might change everything. Joe Average is paying big bucks for HDTVs, they seem to be actually looking at the pictures.
