Reformat question

I've had the studio going for a little over a year now and with all the
program, plugin, demo, and trial installs and uninstalls in that time as well
as the accumulated amount of data, performace seems a little sluggish compared to
what it was. I've been thinking then to do a clean reinstall of Windows 98 SE
with a format of the C drive to get things streamlined again.

My question is about my two other hard drives. If I reinstall and format the C
drive, will I lose data on the D and E drives? I'm guessiing not, but I want to be
sure. I wonder if I should remove the two drive during the process and then
reinstall them afterwards.

I'm backing things up of course prior to this, but I wondered what advice or
suggestions others might have. This will be the first time I've attempted this.

if you do it right, no you shouldnt lose ANY data on the other drives.

but it is always a good idea to backup your data before doing anything like this.

I have done this many times and never had a problem.

the only time I ever had a problem is when I used recovery disks... they reformatted the drive I backed up to!!! lol

but if you just reformat the C drive, then install windows on the C drive, you will be fine.

You will not have any problems doing this, I've done this many times. That is if you just have data on D: and E: drive. If you have programs installed on them, then they won't work because all the registry information and driver information on the C: drive will be erased. Any driver updates for your hardware will be lost also. You should create a Windows 98 startup disk. Boot up from the startup disk so that you're in Dos Mode. Now just goto the C> prompt and type "FORMAT".

Yes, I do only have data on the D and E drives
which I'm in the process of backing up just incase.
