Register your product

Hi,
Just got Vegas 6.0. When I installed it, it asked for serial number, I typed it in and it said "register your software" so I did, but I got some kind of error message (something about not finding the site or something like that). So I closed that window and another window popped open asking for a number that was emailed to me. Of course, I didn't have such a number, so I just closed the window. Vegas seemed to work ok, so I went to the Sony site and registered my product. I checked my email and there was no email from Sony. It also said in "My software" that I don't have this product. Now my question is, what will happen to Vegas? Will it quit on me after 30 days? What exactly should I do here? Thanks.

Call customer service directly at 800.577.6642 (toll free in the USA). They'll walk you through gettting it properly registered and activated. They'll probably also try to figure out why it didn't work for you the first time so that problem won't happen again.

BTW, to check if your software is registered look in My Account on this very site. Once registered all your serial numbers are there so you can access them from anywhere. Very, very handy feature except keep your password to this site hard to guess and change it regularly like it was the password to your bank account.

Vegas has finally showed up in "my software" but I still have no activation code. Or any email at all from Sony

You probably won't get an activation code, generally you need that only when you register from another computer.

While we're on this, what's the procedure for letting Sony know that I've sold my Vegas 6 and transfering to the new owner the registration?

I believe you can email customer service with the product name, serial number, and the name of the person you sold it to. Then when that person contacts customer service they'll be issued a new serial number and yours will be deactivated.

I thought you had to register your product to get on this forum - but chazborazbo is here already? Am I wrong?

I suppose it's possible he's registered SONY software before this.

Yes, I bought Vegas movie thingy a few months back and had already registered that. It did not require an activation code to install so I did not have that issue with the movie thingy.
