Reliably Making Vegas Crash!!

bgc wrote on 1/13/2000, 3:29 PM
While playing back a Vegas project (20-30 tracks
with a moderate number of effects) I can just about
always crash Vegas by clicking ahead of the current
playback position in time (i.e. making the playback cursor
jump ahead in time). Boom. It throws a Segmentation
Fault. I'm learning not to do this before stopping
playback but it would be nice to not worry about it.

Still...with 20-30 tracks that's pretty impressive.

Hi Brett
What type of computer are you using? ie cpu,ram etc. are you running
SCSI?
We've found that on a PII 450 running 27 tracks and 4ea.DX FX you
need apx 130mb, and apx 53% of cpu I used Norton Utilities 2000 v4.5
to test one of my systems.

Sorry if this sounds rude...but what kind of a reply is that?
You don't really mean this do you?

Who cares how many tracks one gets...if it crashes.... the program
loses it's functionality....and when a program loses it's
functionality...this software is of no use in the audio world or the
user...the user is stuck with extremely pricey software Box and CD -
that's all.

Fortunately, this person has a way around it....it's worse in my case.
(see Freeze/crash with Delta 1010 post)

I'm extremly angry with the process of delivering software before
it's Severity 1 and Priority 1 bugs have been erradicated.
It's sickening.
The pack is so small.....it is understandable to expect that
multitracking software of this calibur/price should be FULLY tested
with ALL multi-track cards on the market. I am not seeing this as I
roam through this forum.

Testing costs money (hint,hint)....I would love to hear all about the
SF test team.

I hope I hear of a fix to my Freeze/crash issues as well...but as for
now...my much less expensive CoolEditPro 1.2 is ruling over the
pricey Vegas. A FULL return of Vegas may have to be in the NEAR
future....the product is TOTALLY UNUSABLE in my case.

Hi George,
I have a 500 MHz PIII with 128 MB of RAM. No SCSI.

Dude, you are not living in the real world. Computers crash, this is
a reality that you have to deal with. If you can't deal with that you
will be a highly frustrated individual in your attempts. Software
can't make up for every hardware limitation. Having had experience
with numerous software multi-trackers, I can tell you that Vegas is
hands down the most stable I have ever worked with.

Try Cubase for a week and let me know how you like it. Bug city. You
are not dealing with a bug, you are simply hitting the ceiling of your
system's performance. SCSI drives, more ram, faster CPU, etc. All of
these thing could help you out. You can't just blame it on SF.
