Remove source files from disk without removing from project

I need to remove data files from disk (I only have just under a terabyte of disk) that I have used for completed projects, but do not want to remove them from the projects.

Vegas offers the option of removing from project, or removing from project and disk. I cannot locate the option to remove from disk alone.

I know I can do this manually, however, with the number of files and projects I have active that is error prone.

Any suggestions, besides being careful :)

Thanks,

Rusty

Be very careful! ;)

I don't think Vegas has a command for doing this so you'll have to do it in Explorer. This is another good reason for having individual project folders and keeping all files related to each project in their own folder. This way it's easy to remove an entire folder for a project and know you're not interfering with any others.

In addition, i also have some "shared" folders full of clips that i use in multiple projects. These get used often and repeatedly so i need to keep them around, and since they're used in many different projects this eliminates having duplicates of them in other folders. It takes a little bit of planning, but once you're used to it it becomes very simple and easy.

Unfortunately individule folders for the captured data would be difficult. I produce custom dvds for individules at events - projects are intermingled on the input...

I have tried opening a project, removing from disk and project and then not saving the project. That has the effect but is more dangerous than I care.

Seems like an obvious project management task. Apparantly the Vegas developers don't do much project work...

In Vegas you'r meant to be able to save a project with its trimmed media to allow you to delete all the original video and audio clips. BUT I have had a lot of problems with this as Vegas can get confused where it stores files and I have lost projects this way. I suggest you do no individual deleteing of files but save a completed project with all its components to DVD (using Windows Explorer copy command and a packet writer) and then delete the entire project.
