Renaming AVCHD clips in Vegas?

If I don't use Cineform to transcode, is there some way to rename the clips inside Vegas when I add them to the timeline? What I mean is that I have a card, I dump the whole card into a folder on my drive ( D:\Todays Project\Private\etc.etc.

Inside that AVCHD I end up with the various Clip1 Clip 2 etc. I want to rename them as bring them in. Any tool to do that or can I do it in Vegas? Can I go ahead and rename them in the Project Media folder?

I'm use to doing that with FCP during the Log and Transfer transcode process.

Why do you need to rename them as you bring them in? It would be much faster simply to use a batch rename program while they're in the folder (independent from vegas). I usually rename mine with the time/date shot. It takes a couple of seconds for 5000 or 6000 clips

I use:

It's free.

If your reason for renaming is to deal with duplicates across multiple cards then use the Device Explorer to import your clips. It assigns a unique name to each clip across multiple cards. It also concatenates cipls that are truncated to 4GB files in your cam.
