render 5.1 ac-3 crashes Vegas

Indyman wrote on 3/17/2013, 4:40 PM
Greetings,
I recorded a program in HD OTA via my Hauppauge 2250 card and am trying to burn to a BluRay. I can drop the file directly (since MainConcept mpg encoded) into DVDA but when I create the disk the audio track is only the front L/R (no dialogue). I've tried setting up the project as both stereo or 5.1 surround but the results are same. So I imported the file into Vegas Pro 12 - all of the surround audio tracks are present. I rendered the video no problem, but when i go to render the audio as AC-3, either in stereo or 5.1 surround, Vegas crashes about 2% into the render. What I really want is a stereo downmix (since I don't have a 5.1 playback system for my BluRay player). Any thoughts? I'm new to VP so I may be missing something simple here. The analysis from MediaInfo is shown:

Hauppauge captures a transport stream that is rife with errors. There is no error correction built in.

Assuming your system is stable, running the files through "quickstream fix" in VideoRedo TV Suite should fix the crashing problem. There is a free trial so you don't have to pay to try it.

"Any advice greatly appreciated."

Follow this procedure to suppress closed captions if Vegas is spending time mapping them.

You can also have VideoReDo change the audio to LPCM stereo.

I have one local station that transmits a stream that I can't edit in any version of Vegas without changing the audio to PCM. Not all programs have the problem. It seems to be programs that originated as 24 fps and are being transmitted at 1080-60i.

Thanks musicvid - I took your suggestion and tried VideoRedo but it caused an "audio ring buffer overflow" and crashed that program as well! Just to be clear the file was captured using Hauppage's WinTV 7. The file seems to play fine in Windows Media Player.

john - I had already turned off closed captions but you're right it did take forever to scan with it on. See my comments above with VideoRedo. Funny thing is I've had no problems previously with the Hauppauge capture but like you said it may be the program source. Thanks for your response

You should report your error with VideoRedo TV Suite to the author. He will reply personally and should come up with a fix.

I did and indeed he did offer some suggestions with the program. Unfortunately none of them worked for my issue though to be fair he did personally respond and very quickly too. In the end, I just burned the mpeg file directly to a BD-RE disk and it played just fine in my Samsung BR player, which is all I really needed. Thanks for the responses.
