Render As Dialog box never shows up, but Vegas hangs, crashes, abort

Julius_ wrote on 12/9/2024, 7:43 AM

Hi,

When I press the Render As button, Vegas 22 hangs, then crashes. I never get to see the Render As dialog box

I've seen this in V21 as well, but with V22 I'm seeing it more often. Today, it was happening consistently and couldn't render out my project. I think because I am using more HEVC.

I did see this post (but no solution)

The Vegas Log, Screen recording and Mediainfo is found all here:

Thanks

Make sure you have the latest Microsoft Visual C ++ and .Net framework installed. And restart your system after these installations.

This issue keeps coming up...today I have restarted Vegas15 times in trying to get the "render as" dialog box to come up. Yes C++ and .Net is up to date...frustrating.

It could be an issue with your hardware. For HD support, VCE 3.0 is recommended. Your card only supports VCE 2.0.

have you tried turning 'OFF' GPU acceleration? The video engine in VP22 is a constant work in progress, moving forward.

Did you try filing an official support request? Perhaps the log files would help them identify the cause.

A reset didn't help did it?

There's a render as crash that's kinda similar that has plagued my system for years... I've always found that if I open a blank project first, drop any media onto the timeline so i can click render as, then do so... it opens the dialogue just fine... but if I don't, it'll crash, but only on my desktop. If I do any sort of complex editing, and forget to do that step first, it will crash.

So, I always start a new project, open the render as dialogue, close it, then open my project that I'm trying to render.

Systems:

Desktop

AMD Ryzen 7 1800x 8 core 16 thread at stock speed

64GB 3000mhz DDR4

Geforce RTX 3090

Windows 10

Laptop:

ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo 32GB (9980HK CPU, RTX 2060 GPU, dual 4K touch screens, main one OLED HDR)

@Julius_

If VEGAS is crashing when trying to open the render dialog, it almost never is a problem with the media in the project, since the render dialog does not try to access the media until you execute the actual render.

In this case, it is more than likely a problem trying to load on of the render plugins...often due to an issue with the GPU or Windows. In this case, the problem seems to be with the Video for Windows plugin based on the the log you provided. That would indicate that there is a problem with OS. You could probably get around this by removing or renaming the avi plugin (aviplug.dll), since that is what uses Video for Windows.

This might be caused by some incompatible AVI codecs being installed on the system.

Thank you guys for the feedback... @VEGASDerek suggestion seems to have worked. I downloaded a new aviplug.dll from this site:
https://www.dll-files.com/aviplug.dll.html

Renamed the original aviplug in the C:\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro 22.0\FileIO Plug-Ins\ folder and downloaded the new file (I didn't want to be without the aviplug.dll).

So far no crashes.
