Render hangs at 100%, again

Ok, this error that occasionally occurred some time ago, now happens every time.
Rendering video hangs at 100%

It is 100% reproducible, both for the 32 and the 64 bit version.
I have a brand new Vista 64, with SP 2. The only applications I have installed so far, are the Sony Creative "suite".
Vegas 9c. Vista 64, SP2. 8 Gb RAM.
What to do now?

I found the culprit. Sorry about posting so much before I investigate, but in this case I think it can be helpful to others.
It is the sound settings under preferences that makes rendering halt.

When I select my sound device ESI 1010(an external sound device connected to my PC via a PCI card), then rendering halts.
When selecting the Microsoft sound mapper - all is fine. Actually, I am not sure what I do here, and what the right solution is.
When playing back on hte time line, I hear "clicks" now and then when using the MS Soundmapper, when I select my own sound device, sound is excellent.
Anyhows - the problem with rendering halting is gone, luckily..

don't envy you your teething problems ;-P

but that's another useful point you've brought up.

in a way i hope you keep finding these things out before i have to! (i'm installing my new copy of win7/64 to replace the rc i've been running till now. unfortunately there isn't an 'upgrade', or 'sideways' install that i know of....)

Leslie,
many people have had problems with this:
Render hags at 100%

I am starting to think that the sound device setting may be the cause for others too. For me, it was first after I upgraded to Vista 64 SP2 that it became 100% reproducible.

I am not sure to what extent I want to share your hope.. ;-)
Well, Vegas 9c now works like magic, like a dream, fast and responsive.
