Render Markers ONLY?

PhilHemel wrote on 10/24/2003, 3:56 PM
I've rendered a large MPEG2 file which took about 20 hours.

I've realised I need to add some more markers to the project (which will become chapter points in DVDA), but the video remains unchanged.

QUESTION: Is there a way to export/render JUST the markers to a new .SFL file instead of having to re-render the entire MPEG-2 file??

I haven't played with DVD Architect enough yet to know for sure, but i believe you can add more chapter points on the timeline there.

As Kelly said, just load the file into DVDA, add whatever extra markers are needed, and then insert the scene selection menu.

Thanks for the lightning responses guys!

Trouble is, it looks like it's gonna be an on-going project so the Vegas Project needs to be the 'Master' so to speak.

Any other thoughts on how I can render just the .SFL?

Otherwise I'll just have to render the lot again )o: But don't panic - I'm not gonna "throw a Zippy" and start slagging off a superb program just cos it doesn't pander to my every whim (o;

Another option: you can open a rendered file in the Vegas trimmer, adjust/add/delete/rename markers there, and save them with the file without re-rendering the project. DVDA will pick up the marker changes.

Thanks for that option, but it doesn't solve my problem as the Vegas Project needs to contain the 'Master' markers otherwise I've got to do the whole thing again NEXT time (as this is an ongoing project)

Sussed it!!

I just render an empty or muted video track to a dummy MPEG-2 file using the lowest possible quality for speed, then replace the real .SFL file with the one created with the dummy.

The only 'quirk' seems to be that the dummy file has to have exactly the same file name as the original as the .SFL stores the file name for some reason.

Sony - any problems/side effects you can think of doing this?

Phil - that is just too kool! - I like using V4 in a . . .well off the wall way - excellent!

Sony Guys - Still no side effects you can think of from using this "Hack" ?
