Render mono wav to mono wav without volume rise?

I'm sure this is a pretty basic question, but I'm stumped.

I have a mono 48kHz wav file on my timeline. I want to render a bit of it out to a new mono wav file with the same volume, but when I do, the rendered file is louder and clips. I have deleted all fx on the events, track and master bus.

I guess the problem maybe be that the mono is going out to 2 stereo tracks which are then being combined back into a mono track at louder volume. But I can't see a way to set the project to mono. The only options I see in Project Properties are Stereo and 5.1 surround.

Of course I can reduce the volume on the original track, but what is the "correct" way to do what I want to do within Vegas?

Original is on the upper track. Rendered file is on the lower track:

What are your render settings? Did you choose MONO?

That is under channels on your render options.

Yes Dave.

Nick, that doesn't make any sense. I just rendered out a mono track, brought it back in and it was exactly the same volume.
Do you have any FX applied to the master output?

I just did the same thing, except rendered to a new track instead of a file, and got exactly what I was feeding it. Must be some effect or normalizing going on.

Are your master faders set to 0dB?

I can't repro with render to Track or Render to File. I can with Master Faders not on STUN!

Thanks for the replies. I tracked it down to a disabled (unchecked) WAVES RVox Mono plugin fx on the track. Not truly disabled, but somehow messing with the volume.
