Render of Effects & Transitions

Hello All:

I have VMSP 9.0, testing 10.0.

A while back I saw a post about how Vegas "renders" all effects and transitions, and conversely does not "render" clips that have no effects and no transitions. This affect the speed of the overall render (output).

Is my understanding correct? For example, if I assemble a montage of straight cuts and zero effects, will that render faster than a montage full of crossfades and color correction? And more important, does this affect the qualtiy of the video?

Thanks everyone for reading!

Kim

Depends on your source and output formats. For example, if you start with DV, render to DV, and have no changes to the video - it just copies the file without having to do any processing. If you add an effect/dissolve, that frame would have to be processed instead. If you output to something like WMV, everything would have to be processed.

So if the source and output formats match AND that format can be smart rendered, then the frames will not be processed.
