Render Problem

Hi, I have multiple Main Concept MPEG-2 720x480x32 29.970 fps (NTSC) video files in a DVDA1d project. The audio is .wav format. As I am encding to an NTSC dvd, why does DVDA keep trying to recompress the video? As the video source is exactly the same as the output source, I am guessing it shouldn't be doing this. When I go into Optimize DVD, the Recompress Video section is checked and greyed out. Am I doing something wrong? I keep getting render times of over 13 hours for the project. Although I could save time by AC3 encoding the .wav files in Vegas, DVDA does this for me anyway quickly, but the video is getting annoying. Any help of advice would be appreciated.

I was getting the same type of render times. I was advised to render my video proects using the DVDA template for NTSC video and AC3 for the audio. When I did that, my times went for 4 and 5 hours to a matter of minutes with no re-compressing. Otherwise, from what I can understand, DVDA will re-compress.

Good luck.

I understand what you mean. I just used Vegas to render the wav files to ac3, so now the sound doesn't need recompressing, but in the project DVDA still tells me that my already MPG2 NTSC video needs re-compressing, even though the video is already within the parameters set out by DVDA. The video I am using is already at the correct GOP, frame rate, bit rate and resolution for an NTSC dvd as the video came from an NTSC dvd in the first place. The video is currently in the same state as it will be when DVDA recompresses it, so why does DVDA need to recompress it? All DVDA should be doing is render the menu and compile everything for DVD, except it's trying to mess about with video that doesn't need changing. This is so frustrating, I may just go back to TMPGEnc DVD Author. If it's a choice between nice looking menus in DVDA, or useability in TMPGEnc DVD Author, I know which one I might turn to. It's just a shame as I've already spent a fortune on this. :(

If I open a DVD project originally created with DVDA 1.0 in DVDA 2.0, the program wants to rerender the files (also the videos are indicated as already compliant). If I put the same files in a newly created DVDA 2.0 project, DVDA accepts them without recompression. What gives?

Sony, any comments?

We are aware of the issue. It will be fixed in the next update of DVDA2.
