Render Problem

My DIY machine keeps hanging on me and i replaced a new mobo with the old Q6600, 2.26Ghz. There is no overclocking and it works fine but I have had one blue screen so far. The main problem is I can edit fine in vegas but it cant complete a render. It would show that the time has completed but the progress bar is stuck at various percentage. I thought is was a heat prob and used a big fan on it, keeping the CPU at 35Deg but it doesnt work.

What can I do now? I'm worried if the processor is the root cause of the issue. Coould it be damaged such that when fully loaded, it would hang up? How can I check this? I'm sure it is a hardware related problem. This is a fresh install with no junk.

many of us have this very problem on a regular basis on long, complex projects - please search "render" on this forum.

Briefly,
1. go into preferences>video tab and set rendering threads for 1
2. chop project into 2-min. (or shorter) segments, render each using a batch render script (I use Veggie Toolkit), start again after crashes as needed, then put each on new top track and render all.
3. get a 64-bit OS and use blink3times' memory hack on a 32-bit Vegas install

there are some other (less important) fixes:
4. go into View and uncheck everything except preview window (pretty good benefit)
5. turn off background services, like antivirus (doesn't do much, but every little bit may just be enough)
6. for me, Vegas 9a seems more stable than 9b, but 9b has so many other fixes that it's usually a better choice

Also, if you can get a useable intermediate file, such as Cineform, albeit truncated by the crash, you can put it on a new top track and then drag your mouse with left-button down over the remainder of the timeline to select all, the Render As with "looped section only" box checkmarked; then place that render after the first one that you got, and repeat this procedure until the top track is filled. Then render all for final complete render to the codec of your choice.

I've also read that setting the Dynamic RAM Preview RAM to zero helps (in the Video tab of Preferences), but I haven't tested this myself
