Render process doesn't know when to stop

Hello,
The problem I'm experiencing is that VMS 10 continues the rendering process well past the completion of the looped region (a 1 hr 10m clip). you can see on the preview screen that the clip is completed but the render continues on infinitely. I started it and went to bed, then work, came home and it was still elapsing after 20+ hrs. Tried it with same clip (rendering to mpeg-2) three times making sure "render looped region only" was checked. The percentage completed stops at 99% but the hours, mins and seconds keep elapsing. And when I finally cancel the process the program refuses to close. After I force shut down and try to retrieve rendered clip it is corrupted. Any ideas?

While rendering, the frame number at the bottom of the preview screen increments. What's it doing when it gets to 99%?

It's stopped at 137,120.

Also, more information about the media on the timeline and project properties are needed.

Properties:
NTSC DV Widescreen (720x480, 29.970 fps)
width/height: 720x480,
field order:Lower first field
frame rate:29.970 (NTSC)
pixel aspect ratio:1.2121 (NTSC DV Widescreen)
full res. quality: best
deinterlace method: blend fields
adjust source media to better match project or render settings (checked)

Timeline media content is an MGM movie from DVD (2000) (which I have edited from R rated to PG:)

Ah, ripped video from DVD. My guess is that it has some indexing or other corruption in it so that's why Movie Studio doesn't know where the end is.

If it's an MPEG file, an app like VideoReDo has a QuickStream Fix utility to to fix the corruption. It's not free but has a trial that when registered will allow you to render videos longer than 15 mins. That or re rip the DVD and cross your fingers.

So, the looped region is not dictating the end?

It has to do with the internal file structure of the source file. Rendering is essentially re-encoding the file from one format to another creating a new internal file structure. As the encoder is reading the source file, the video on the timeline, it must be getting "confused" by the possible corruption it may have so it gets lost and doesn't know how to finish/end.

Can you re-rip the dvd again to create a new file to work with? I'm assuming it's just this one file that's causing you grief? If so, it's corrupted and you either have to fix it or create a new one.
