Render Quality for DVD

Ok I am new to this forum and new to DVD authoring. I know video but the rendering quality needed for DVD confuses me.

I have a 20 minute video ready to render. My question is what settings give the best quality but with compression. How many megs should 1 minute of video take up?

Do I create a MOV file or an AVI file? Which one gives the smaller file size while holding on to quality?

If I want a wide screen slide presentation what size do my pictures need to be in for Vegas to make them 16:9. Because when I set my project up for DV Widescreen 720X480 it looks their squeezed on a 16:9 TV set to widescreen and dvd player set to widescreen.

I am an AV guy learning the DVD world becuse it intrests me.

Thanks for any responses!!!

Neither. You render as a "Main Concept MPEG 2" under "Save as type," then under "Template" select "DVD NTSC." After that, render it again, using the exact same file name, to render the Dolby Digital AC-3 file.

(Edit) In DVD-A, make sure your set the bitrate to 6,500 or less. That way, it will play on a wider range of players.

For additonal answers, do a search using keywords and you'll find a wealth of information on your question topics.

If you are serious about DVD production learning, do yourself a favor and buy "DVD demystified" (Jim Taylor) . Very wide covering of DVD producing issues.
