RENDER TEMPLATE CHECK BOX QUESTION

Recently been trying to understand more about rendering in V8. Example:
Save as TYPE: Windows Media Video V9 (.wmv)
Template: 3 Mbps Video
If at this point you choose “CUSTOM” and then the BIT RATE tab at the bottom,
You get a screen where the “Target Bit Rate (bps)” has a check mark on the box
“Internet/Lan” with 3 M in the box. This all makes sense as your template is for a
3 Mbps Video but you might want to change the 3 Mbps to something else --- but WHY OH WHY can you check all the other boxes in the “Target Bit Rate” dialogue and make changes to them also AT THE SAME TIME?????. Does Vegas just render to the highest bit rate? Am I missing something here?

Some streaming formats allow multiple bitrate streams in the same file. A real streaming server will detect the speed of the viewer's connection and serve up the stream that matches.

I tried a render with all the boxes checked and got an error telling me the "audio" bitrate was too high .. when I way way reduced the audio bit rate, the render runs. Hence it seems the streams for video can be encoded for high speed but not the audio which goes at the lowest bit rate --- is that your take?

To be honest, i've never tried it. However i do have a beef with Vegas over that issue. There have been times when i wanted a high audio bitrate and a low video bitrate. Vegas pretty much refuses to let the audio rate be over about 1/4 of the video rate. Grrrrr.
