Render times ?

1.1GHz Celeron (anaemic, I know) with 7200 rpm data drive, 640MB RAM.

Takes around 4 1/2 hours to render 45 minute 720x564x24, 25fps avi (from DV) to 320x240 1mbps 44k1 wmv . Does this sound normal ?

* Yes, I've got network rendering sorted out too ,which cuts it down a bit on my 100mbps LAN and a Celeron 2.4G , 1GB Ram.

I think this is about right. You are converting avi to wmv and you are resizing and you are on a Celeron.

Yep.. sounds pretty normal for such a machine.

Any reason why you don't do all your rendering/work over on the 2.4Ghz machine? It sounds like you have things backwards there.

The 2G4 is my 'Office, internet, and home server machine' with no end of crap on it. It was a cheap mobo/cpu upgrade opportunity.

Yes, the editing machine is next for a shot in the arm - it's a (yuck, VIA) mobo was inhereted from my sound studio Vegas PC which got a Athlon 2600+. It was only ever tthe VIA cos it seemed to be the highest spec mobo with an ISA slot for my now dear-departed TB Pinnacle soundcard.

Any luck with rendering/joining the two WMV files yet? - G
