Render to new track - cant get it to work

Newbie here, I have Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 7.0 and I
cant seem to get 'Render to New Track...' to work (or maybe I
dont understand its purpose).

I have selected a potition of my project using the mouse, right
click, select 'Render to New Track...' (same as Ctrl+M, same as
tools pull down). I then get the pop up fill in window. I fill in
the file name, location etc. I select .avi file (video for windows),
then press 'Save' , and nothing is produced. The pop up window
disappears and no file is created.

I know I must be missing something really simple, but I cannot
figure out what I'm doing wrong. How to I render just a small
section of my project?

Thanks. Braze.

I've never used render to a new track; never really quite saw the point to it actually. I just render to a new file. Then if i want to use that new file in my project i place it there myself.

That being said, Vegas Studio only supports 4 video and 4 audio tracks (pre-version 6 the limit was 3 of each). Are you already using all four tracks? That would preclude creating a new track for the render.

no, I'm not using all the tracks, I didnt want to render the projecct as it is large,
I only want to render a small portion (which I have selected). Maybe I just
dont understand how to do this -- which is to select a small part of my project
and just render that. Or maybe I'm not selecting it correctly such that it thinks
I dont have anything to render. Oh well, I wasted enough time on it already.
I ended up rendering the entire project which took about an hour, then I cut
out the very small part I wanted. Very slow. :(

Select the section you want so it has the blue highlight across the time of the timeline. Then go to Make Movie and render (not render to new track) and make sure "render loop region only" is checked.

I have done some animating with Poser to in videos. I have used back ground green screen in them. For what ever reason I'm not sure, I have to render those animation to a new track and delet the originals on the track, before they would work with chrom key? Vegas Plat. 6. Or am I missunderstanding something?

Sorry, i wouldn't have any idea what the problem is without some more information or samples.

However, rendering to a new file and then importing that file would work just the same as rendering to a new track. Either way works the same.

thanks guys, the File->Render As... then check the "render loop region only"
box did what I was wanting (which was render a small clip of a project to a file
without rendering the entire project).

I never could the render to new track to do anything. Even with just a simple
test case of a single video track of solid color. Either this function does not
work in Studio version, or I'm missing how you select the video or the destination
track. Oh well, the above did what I needed, I searched on the web some more
and other people have had the same problem, but the only solution I saw
was that a guy was out of video tracks, in my case I have 3 left.

All in all I've been very satisfied with this productt, coming from the Roxio POS.
Although sony email support has been of no use and the registration crap
was a pain, especially since you cannot post to a forum until you are registered,
(how can you ask about registration problems) . Anyways, still very pleased
with the product so far.

Thanks again for your help.

You can always call the toll free 800 number with sales, installation, and registration problems. It's free. The downside is that it's only available during normal business hours.
