Render video then blue screen of death.....

Teepolo wrote on 6/24/2003, 2:02 PM
Over the weekend i tried at least 7 times to render an MPEG2 DVD NTSC. This is what happened:

the first 3 times Vegas would render about 7-9 minutes of the video and then shortly after it would give me the blue screen of death saying the program generated and error and would automatically restart the machine. The next few times i tried it would do the same thing. The last time i tried it renedered 20 minutes of the video with about 3 minutes to go and basically did the same thing. Any suggestions or has anybody experienced the same thing??? Any help would be helpful. Thanks ahead of time.

Tim.

Too hot? Weak power supply? Bad memory? ...

I agree with JefDV here.

Sounds like bad memory..... could also be a CPU fan problem too (usually that makes a slow system first, and less likely than bad memory to cause a BSOD)

I doubt it's a Power Supply problem, though.

Hey jet thanks for the info!!!! I have been rendering projects just fine, with no problem. The only thing is i have not renedered a project that was this long. The projects i have been rendering have been 2-10 minutes this latest one is around 20-25 minutes. With that, do you still think it is the memory??? Like i said i have never had this problem up to this point. Thanks again!!! Tim.

Honestly, I was just mentioning things that HAVE caused that sort of problem in the past - and ALL of these have. Rendering is VERY intensive, runs the CPU the hottest and requires the most power. Those are the two I would look at first.

Thanks for the input. I will have to check that out!!!

Tim,

Have you (re)installed any hardware or software recently? JetDV has good suggestions, but to supplement his comments, I would like to add that 90% of BSOD's can be traced back to driver or DLL problems. Do you have all the latest drivers for your machine's hardware? Just a thought.

Thanks,

Shawn

Check out one of my previous posts about my problems. I thought it was software drivers, but turned out to be a bad processor. Vegas would only crash when I tried to render mpg. Download Prime95 (search google) and run the torture test.

Shawn,

Thanks for the thought!! I will check it out. Come to think of it my 11 year old son works on the computer and he is usually trying to install something on the system. Thanks for the input.

What kind of CPU did you have?????

The number is 100%. Only drivers or kernel services can cause a bug check that leads to a BSOD.

As BPhipps posted, might be useful to do a search on this in the forum as it's been gone over before.

If it helps: If you have the sensors on your motherboard, download motherboard monitor and see what the temps are whilst rendering, then compare to specs at the CPU maker website.

Try using the free MS winmedia 9 encoder -> should load your system more then mpg2 in Vegas, and serve as a sort of torture test.

Check for any system logs, or turn on/use software to create them - show you what's happening.

Try dissabling any running software &/or optionally as an additional step, disable hardware by disconnecting drives, pulling cards etc...
