Render widescreen in Vegas?

deathrowbride wrote on 5/7/2010, 4:56 AM
can anyone help? I'm a Vegas beginner...am shooting on Sony handy cam with a new wide screen lens. I've captured using fire wire directly into Vegas. Ive right clicked on time line and altered aspect ratio so that the preview pic is in wide screen....but I can't get it to render in wide screen. I know it has to be 16.9 but I don't know how to change it...I have read previous posts but got confused ( am desperate technophobe but am trying really hard...help...)

use a widescreen project template that matches your footage & then just render to widescreen. All the HD templates are widewscreen, so if you're recording & editing HD, try one of those.

thanks for getting back...I'm not in HD...does that make a difference?

you're OK... there are other settings for non-HD widescreen.

Good luck.

First thing.

Set your project properties to Widescreen under FILE>PROPERTIES>VIDEO

Second
What are you trying to render to? MPEG? DV?

IF you are rendering to MPEG there is a preset for Widescreen.

When you say you can't get it to render in widescreen, do you mean exporting the finished movie, or previewing the clips on the timline?

I'm wondering if it is the latter, as you say you are shooting with a widescreen lens, so probably shooting 4x3? If so you may need to tell Vegas that the clips are widescreen - from Project Media, select clips, right click properties, select Pixel Aspect Ratio and change to widescreen there.

I did the file/properties/video thing...and changed to Widescreen, but the render's still coming out square .I don't know what MPEG is, I just need to render to put on Utube. For some reason the render is defaulting to Windows Media...I don't know if that's where I'm going wrong...?

You are using Vegas Movie Studio, right?
You will get better instruction on those forums. The templates and render options are set up different than Vegas Professional.
