Render with alpha channel ?

Some years ago I had a setup where it was possible to render with an alpha channel.

I rendered to .avi with the Lagarith codecs RGBA setting.

When putting this rendered output to the TL I just had to set its media properties to alpha straight unmatted - and then Bingo!

Have not used it for a long time - and have changed to Win 10 and reinstalled many things in the mean time.

Trying to do this today in both V13 and V14 with the old rendering template it seems like the rendered output does not have any alpha channel.

I have, of course, checked all I could - different templates, settings etc - but no alpha. Of course I could probably render to .png image sequence - but as I keep this intermediary media, space is an issue.

How do you render with an alpha today ?

(Googling the topic gives some hints about using Quicktime - but I really would not like to install any QT on my machine :- ))

Haven't done this in a  while either, but I don't think anything has changed apart from perhaps updated codecs.  Maybe lagarith has changed?   Cineform supports alpha as do various uncompressed formats - maybe try a small second or two render to test?

Have tried also to install and use the old (20) Lagarith version - but: no success.

Then I downloaded and installed Cineform as Kinvermark suggested - and: success.

Actually I also found a new post from Nick Hope about how to make it work: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vp14-can-still-render-cineform-with-alpha-channel--104588/

If Quicktime is an option, Avid DNxHD will render with alpha channel:

Also, MagicYUV does this with Quicktime as well. (It does alpha channel for AVI but I don't think Vegas works properly with it.)
