Render With AMD Card With Voukoder And Vegas Pro 18

Sassylola wrote on 7/27/2021, 5:25 PM

I am making a video tribute for my late dogs to post on Youtube and want to render using Voukoder. I have downloaded the latest version 9.3 installed the latest connector 0.9.11. Running latest Vegas 18 build 527, latest AMD Enterprise driver. Have a Radeon Vll. As you can see I have no presets to pick from to render with my AMD card. Using X264 I have presets that I can change.

In Vegas I have hardware decoder to use set to AMD. Any suggestions? Thanks

Do you need a preset?

Can't you go into options and make changes there? You can try the Voukoder forum, too: https://www.voukoder.org/forum/

I don't have an AMD graphics card, so can't help with that.
However, as RogerS has suggested, you can make your own presets!

I recommend you try this trick 🤓
In the Encoder tab, open Codec drop-down box and select H.264 (x264)
In the Preset section, select General purpose (Recommended) and press Apply below.
You can go to options and further change settings if you like.
Doing this will at least get Voukoder working, until you find out more about AMD graphics.

Derek

Be sure test render first and check the render quality when using AMD graphics card of voukoder.

I have Radeon RX470 and same, 'AMD AMF' selection is available, but after some experiments, the result quality is not good - so I kept using H.264 x264.

Is newer AMD Radeon card makes better quality? I don't know.

I figured out that there are no presets in AMD AMF. I watched a video on Youtube and there was 1 preset to choose from in the video. He was using a Nvidia card and his preset was Good Quality (Recommended). Video is 5 months old. So I was looking for the same preset. I thought AMD would also have a preset.

But I just selected the x264 AMD AMF option and it used my Radeon Vll to render.

Thanks.

Here are the default settings for h.264 NVENC in Voukoder if you can manually create your own preset for AMD

Sassylola wrote on 7/28/2021, 7:15 PM

This is my default setting for h.264 (AMD AMF ). My settings do not show a hardware setting. But when I render using the AMD AMF setting my GPU is using 90 to 100% of GPU. Also HEVC ( AMD AMF ) does not show any hardware setting.

Using h.264 without GPU assist my settings are almost like yours.

If it works for you, great. Some explanation of what the modes do here: https://slhck.info/video/2017/03/01/rate-control.html

For GPU a single % isn't so useful. Watch task manager/performance, scroll down to your GPU and see if it is using hardware encoding. It probably is!

I don't see any threads on the Voukoder forum about settings for AMD cards so perhaps start one there.
