Rendered video skipping.

vbrc wrote on 5/28/2024, 8:13 AM

I have had an ongoing issue with some of my rendered content stuttering or pulsing in Vegas (have had 19 to 21 now). I have had help with this in the past...but the only actual solution has been to process things in Resolve (render) and use Vegas for things like multi cam and effects. Obviously I would like to keep things under one roof. I just cant get this sorted.

I can render the same clips in Resolve with no issues but no matter what format I pick to render with in Vegas (tried them all but pro-rez because I am on windows) I get the same result. I have even tried using Voukoder to render. The main cause of frustration is slow motion clips shot with my Galaxy g23(the phone actually processes the slow motion) but it's not specific to slow-motion at all times. All of my content is rendered in 4k even though not all video is actually shot in 4k. Resolve does not seem to care about this at all. I have tried just about every setting as well in setup, including moving the memory slider around.

I have included links to the

original clip direct from my phone to YT.

A Vegas clip rendered in it's original format.

A Vegas clip rendered in 4k

A resolve clip rendered in 4k.

As you can see...the Vegas rendered clips skip or pulse about every second where the original and the Resolve clips run smooth.

I have tried rendering without Nvidia graphics and have also tried switching to a different AMD card....to no avail.

Because this is only happening in Vegas 19-21...It must be a Vegas thing.

I have vested a lot of time and $$ into Vegas...so I would love to figure this out as it's kept me from wanting to create.

I can provide the original file from drive as well if anyone want's to give it a go on their machine.

Super appreciate any help in advance.

Sure, can you provide the file? Could be an issue reading it properly in VEGAS, we recently had a similar thread about that.

@RogerS Hi,  are you thinking of the variable frame rate post where the Samsung phone was 'stuttering' as they called it when the camera panned around, this isn't panning but there is movement with the cars.?

@vbrc In this post converting the orig from the phone to Constant frame rate fixed the issue https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/rendered-videos-stutter--145832/#ca915304

Your Samsung Galaxy shoots Variable Frame Rate video, which is not very Vegas-friendly.

Two fast, free converters often suggested here are Shutter Encoder and Handbrake.

I was thinking of the GH6 HEVC post where we discovered a bug with MxCompound.

Opened in v21(315) without converting in shutter encoder, rendered with voukoder.
ALL OK.

@vbrc I see the stutter.

This is the orig added to the timeline & rendered out using Magix HEVC - stutter

This it after converting to constant using Handbrake, rendered out using the same Magix HEVC - no stutter

@Gid, selective prerender video solves the problem?

By default, mxcompoundplug decodes this clip with numerous repeated frames, which causes the skipping.

In Options > Preferences > File I/O, check Enable experimental HEVC decoding and restart Vegas. That will make the file get decoded by so4compoundplug. The preview performance may be worse but I don't see repeated frames.

The repeated frames are not necessarily due to the variable frame rate, as constant frame rate Panasonic GH6 HEVC footage has also exhibited repeat frames with mxcompoundplug, as referred to by Roger above.

@gorGaram It made no change to my render, the orig clip still stuttered when rendered with Magix HEVC, I didn't try Voukoder, but I don't think Selective prerender is used in or makes any difference in the final render....

Super appreciate it.

I meant the stuttering on the timeline.
The render is separate, of course.

If it can't read the file properly it can't write it correctly, whether a selective prerender or render.
