You have multiple options. Personally, I work on my projects in segments, render each segment when completed, and then create a final project consisting of those segments.

The other two main options are:
Render to New Track
Pre-rendering

I do exactly the same thing, especially for complex sections.

The nice thing about Vegas is that you can pretty much do it however you want.

Thanks guys,

When you render in segments how is that done exactly? and what is the procedure to render to a new track? Sorry for the questions as this system is great but a tad confusing. I appreciate your help, this forum is so good, people working out solutions together without the constant wingers.

Cheers

To render in sections you just make a selection on the timeline and the use the menu option "File-Render As" and select the checkbox to render just the selected region only. This is the way I work mostly (rather than pre-render or do the render to new track below)

Tools-Render to new track will do a similar thing but automatically load the rendered file back onto the timeline into it's own track.

Something else you may not have found yet coffeebean - you can have several instances of Vegas open at the same time, so you can have each section of a bigger project in it's own "sub-project", and when completed, this can be rendering at the same time as you work on another section in its own instance of Vegas.

(Dual CPUs come into their own using this approach.)

Later, the various rendered clips can be put together in yet another instance of Vegas.

Dear Peter and Liam,

Thanks heaps fellas,

I am looking at these options. From what you have said is it so that I complete a section, select it, render to say avi, move onto the next section etc until completed then select and output to mpeg2 say with vegas only rendering to mpeg2 and not track rendering? Also where are the pre-rendered files stored so as to reimport into vegas. Sorry for the questions...coffeebean
