I am having trouble rendering to low bit rate MPEG 2 DVD PAL or SVCD PAL files.
I used an existing file, rendered as DV PAL(in Sonic Foundery Video Factory 2), and rendered to DVD PAL default fine.
When rendering as an SVCD PAL, the first 20-30 seconds is pulsating sligtly, enough to notice, especially with any text overlaid.
I tried rendering as an VCD PAL, OK, DVD PAL at default (best quality) OK.
I tried DVD PAL at a lower bit rate, and the pulsating just creeps in. Also DVD PAL default with quality at 15 is OK too.
Tried some unrendered clips, captured from DV cam, rendered fine, no pulsating.So... I recaptured from DV tape the file, and tested, all appeared OK. Rendered whole file, pulsating is back.
DVD PAL best is OK, even with the same file. I suspect the bitrate has something to do with it, a lot of motion in the file, so I can't really tell if there is any pulsating in the video at DVD PAL, I don't think so.
I just tried a rendered DV PAL file, captured and rendered in VV3, and tested about 40 seconds, as a SVCD PAL file, appears OK. Tried another file done in SF VF2 as before, pulsating again for the first 30 sec or so. I checked the other file that had been recaptured from DV tape and rendered as SVCD PAL(VV3), after about 30 sec everything is OK, no pulsating for the rest of the file (approx. 15 min).
I tried killing all appplications in the back ground, makes no difference.
I'm using an Athlon 1200, 384M RAM, 30GB 7200 ATA100 hard drive and WinXP.
This frustrating, I don't know if its me or something in the file format, both good and bad files have had normal interlaced DV and progressive scan DV.I would not think the encoder is so delicate, the problem appears to be realted to resolution and bit rate??
Thanks.
