1.) Turning you project into a media file (ie: mpeg, wma, etc.). In other words putting all the pieces together and turning it into one contiguous file.
2.)Render it to wmv, quicktime, or real media. Then post it to your web page (that may be a whole different post).
3.)Wmv, quicktime, or real. Flash is the most common, but VMS doesn't support flash natively.
4.) All of the above or Mpeg-1. What is your goal with the cd? To play in a player, or just to distribute? If you are playing in a player Mpeg-2 onto a dvd is the most universal way to do it.

I have a VERY small company that prior to buying Vegas used PowerPoint to create digital ads for Home Improvement contractors. I am thrilled with Vegas so far. It opens up many more ways to convey my message than the static images I employed in Power Point. I am still confused about the rendering thing. Isn't it the same as "make movie"? When I'm done making compiling my movie I simply go to 'make movie" and save it as whatever format I choose there. Is there an advantage to rendering first?

It's the same thing. But "render as..." takes you directly to the advanced rendering menu. In other words, if you clicked on "make movie", then next, and then "Advanced Render" you would be at the same menu as if you just clicked "file" "render as...". Not sure why that is, but that's the way they did it.

The Make Movie page seems to be a bit of a waste. Almost always people will have to go to advanced to set some parameter, and those who don't end up with endless problems. I think life would be better if the Make Movie button just disappeared.
