I just load the default SVCD template and set motion search precision to "best quality"
Are you trying to get the best setting for VBR? or a different GOP structure?
That's what I will do too, just load the default svcd setting in tmpegenc. But when you did some editing in vv3, how did you render the file, what template, default setting uncompressed or did you use ntsc dv or something else? I tried using this ntsc dv in rendering my file after editing it but tmpegenc can't load it, it says illegal floating point decimal, something like that. Could you please walk me through how you did yours, I have no problem doing this in vcd format, I used default setting uncompressed when rendering my file. I want to capture my source via firewire.

I use the the dv template set to "good" quality rendering.IMHO the DV codec from sonicfoundry is pretty good, adequate for SVCD. Uncompressed format would need a lot of HD space.

HUH? I have no problem loading up DV AVI into tmpgenc...have you downloaded the VFP plugin (from tmpgenc site)and install it? what TMPGENC version are you using?
I'm using v253 plus. No, I don't think I have downloaded the vfp plugin but I'll try right now. Thanx for the tip. I installed v258 plus and tried encoding ntsc dv avi and tmpegenc supports it. Thnx a lot again.
