Rendering - Blank screen

Horsefly wrote on 10/26/2009, 7:31 AM
Hello,

Has anyone ever experienced the display screen go blank when rendering a project ?,
I am taking a wild guess here when I assume that thats all its rendering....a blank screen, no actual footage in there.

Help....my project is half an hour, SD and nothing too major in the TL, just a few composites , no dissolves just soft cuts.

Thanks,
Glenn

Did you let it finish the render and see what the outcome was?

The screen will go blank during smart renders where nothing is changed. There. Should be a note explaining this in the middle of the blank screen. I would let the render finish and check it before assuming something was wrong.

Some renderers require the output dimensions to be in standard ratios.

If they are not, a blank preview and rendered file may be the result.

...Thanks for the replies,
I have seen the parts with say just titling, and yes it does inform you of no compression, and yes , I let one finish the render and yes it was just a blank screen. Just cant understand this problem, I have rendered with no trouble , apart form the odd times with this blank screen. I have gone back and checked the TL, to make sure I havent got any debris on any of the tracks, and no, just the rough cut.

Yes, I got blank renders. ( V9.0b). Do not know why. A blank preview during render did result in blacks with normal audio. Happened twice in same project. No idea why.
New project today - using V8.0c.

Mahesh, it doesnt seem like a common occurence, as I have scoured the support pages looking for any references to this problem, I am using VP9, 32 bit, have done projects in the past, no problems, the only thing diffent with this project are the muzzle flash composites i have added, and thats without secondary FX.

I could not explain it. It was my first project using m2t files only
as I am still mailnly on SD.

As I said, I could not 'repro' at the time. Now moved on to new project.

Are all the track compositing modes source alpha?

switching to a different mode can sometimes result in a black screen.... Your comment about muzzle flashes made me think of this...

Tumbleweed,
No, I changed it to Add, as the muzzle shot wasn't really coming through very well.
Plus it sits at the top of the timeline, so it has preference over any conflicting visuals.
