Rendering, Burning, V7 & Nero

Paul_Varjak wrote on 9/28/2007, 4:46 PM
Just finished a project for a 30th birthday party. I use Vegas 7 for all
of my projects and use Nero for burning to DVD. Not sure what I
am doing wrong but when I go to burn the mpeg2 to DVD it just
hangs every time. I rendered using the default template. Would
using the DVD NTSC template make a difference? Any help or
suggestions would be greatly appreciated as the pressure is on.
Party is tomorrow night.

Try burning in DVD Architect?

If you're saying you use the default Mpeg2 setting in Vegas, that's probably not the problem, but it is a horrible template. You should use the DVD NTSC. It's much better quality video. I hope you don't use DVD Architect to make your Mpeg2s either.

This is how I do it. I render my ac3 file first, then I render my Mpeg2 file. Both in Vegas, not DVD Arch. Then I use DVD Arch to 'Prepare' my DVD.
It will make the TS audio and TS video files for burning.
Then I open Nero and burn a DVD using these files (only the TS video file is needed, as the audio is included there)
I've never had a failure yet.

It could be your burner is going. Especially if you were burning to DVD RWs. The laser may be going bad. But having said that, I've never actually prepared a DVD with Nero, so I don't know what may have happened with you.

You can also open DVD Architect and right click on the blue screen in DVD Arch and select 'import media'. Then import your project and you can play it in DVD-A and see if it has problems playing. (Double left click on the imported media and then hit the play button) Maybe it's just a corrupt file.

Just how do you render your ac3 file? Is this done with Vegas?
I have never done it this way, could you give me some more info please?
Thanks.

Yes, this is done from Vegas.
When you render, select the AC3 template is the "Save as type" box and render it to the same folder as your MPEG-2 file is.
Unless this is a 5.1 project, the default template is fine.
Make sure to give it the same filename (eg. myvideo.mpg and myvideo.ac3).
This way, the audio file file automatically load into DVD Architect once you load the video file.

What's wrong with the MPEG2 setting? What's better about DVD NTSC. Is there any documentation I should read? Why would Sony include both? I remember when MPET2 was the cat's meow when it first came out.

Thanks for any additional info you can share.

Simply open up 'Render As' and then your MainConcept mpg2 window and then using the 'Custom' button, check the settings in the different tabs, then compare the 'default' template settings with the DVD NTSC template settings (in the 'Template' dropdown). You can even make better settings if you know what you're doing. You can also screw things up, if you don't know what you're doing.
