Rendering for web streaming

I am rendering a film trailer to stream from the film's website. I know very little about doing this, and I would really appreciate people's help in achieving this. I have done some research and have found mpeg-4 is the most common file type used for web streaming, but there are so many settings under this format that I really don't know what to do. Just to clarify that I am using Sony Vegas 7, and the video was shot on PAL 25fps, Frame Size 720x576. If you could give me a step by step guide to achieving the best quality in both audio and visual, while allowing it to steam in real time, I would be most grateful.
All the best,
Si

mp-4 is not the most common file format for Web Streaming. It takes a lot of power to decompress, so it won't play well on old, old machines. However, if your audience is the general web user, they most likely have machines that can play this with ease.

Rendering for the web is a very large topic and you should search this forum for the many threads. You could also find entire training DVDs on the topic.
