Rendering Multiple Channel Mono in Vegas 11

Hi,

I do DCP authoring for some local theatres and one of the requirements for rendering a DCP package is separate left / right audio wave streams. Vegas 10 gives me a "Mono - multiple" option but I don't see the same rendering option in 11. Sure, I can duplicate the track and assign one as Left Only and Right Only then render two separate files, but that seems a bit of work if 11 has a render option that I'm unaware of.

Does such an option exist somewhere or should I just stick with 10 for DCP work?

it's still possible

look for a checkbox at the bottom of the render window called "view all options"

then you'll see the "enable multi-channel" option near the top

The new render window is going to be a real pain in the ass until you create all your presets/favourites.

Thanks for jumping in. And I agree; the new Render window is a bit of a confrontation. *grin*

Unfortunately, the "Enable multi-channel" is only rendering as a matrixed file (L/R combined). The old render option would automatically render two separate files, a mono Left channel and a mono Right channel. I can't seem to be able to automatically spit out those two separate files.

A case for VASST 'Trackaliser' ?

oh cool, I had no idea vegas 10 could make multiple mono files - will have to check it out

Thanks for pointing me towards the plug-in, Geoff. I downloaded and installed it but I'm baffled; I don't see any way to tell it to render all of my tracks as two single wave files. In other words, let's say I have five stereo tracks. I want to be able to click a "Render as separate mono files" option and at the end have a single Left wave file comprising all of the left channels and a single Right wave file with all of the right channels. Is there a way to do that in Trackalizer that I'm missing or am I using it for the wrong purpose?

Sorry, I was thinking of doing the Left Only / Right Only thing, then putting thru Trackaliser to tidy up into straightforward individual mono tracks / files.

Check out the Vegas Pro - Scripting forum - if not already , somebody there may have the skills to implement.

geoff.

OK, try this. Before doing editing, export as an AAF. Then re-import after setting Preferences|General to " Import stereo as dual mono".

Yeah, I can see how that would work to separate the tracks but then it sounds like I'd end up with ten mono tracks for the five video channels (five left tracks and five right tracks) and I'd still have to render the first set of five as a single Left mono track and then render the second set of five as a single Right mono track. I could probab[y get to the same spot by importing the video tracks, duplicating each one's audio tracks and then changing the Channel settings to Left Only and Right Only for each, respectively.

Whew, that's a lot of fiddling for such a simple thing. Looks like I'll just do all my DCP work in 10 until this gets fixed (if it ever does).

But I'll take your suggestion and start a thread in the Scripting section. Thanks again!

This has been logged into our bug database and will be fixed in a future Vegas Pro 11 update.
