Rendering Multiple Formats

I am very new to NLE and obviously do not understand file formats well enough at this stage.

I have a project (edited with Sony Vegas Pro 12) that uses video from a range of different sources, including low end ‘domestic’ video cameras and mobile phones. A real mixed bag. Some media was shot in the square format and some widescreen. For footage in the square format I used pan/crop to set at 16:9 and adjusted framing accordingly (especially if it looked as though I may lose head room).

Now I would like to render in a widescreen format.

I tried setting the Project Properties to the Internet 360-30p 16:9 (640x360 29.970 fps) template format, the Pixel aspect ratio is always 1.0000 (Square). Then I tried setting the Pixel aspect ratio to 1.3333 (HDV 1080) and was assigned the Custom (640x360) 29.970 fps) Template.

However, when I attempt to render, the ‘Render As’ dialogue box does not give me an active ’Render’ icon with either of the above.

What am I doing wrong? What settings would be best for this project?

Hello Maxcat and welcome!

What is your desired output for this file? Delivery on DVD or Blu-Ray? Post to YouTube or Vimeo? Play on iPad or similar device? First decide which format(s) you want.

When you say the Render As dialog box does give you an Active icon, do you mean a template with an Equals ( = ) sign next to it? That will display only when your project properties exactly match the render template. If you are getting a Custom template in your project properties, you won't see an Equals signs. That doesn't mean you cannot use the templates; it just means the ones with the Equals signs are optimized for your project when the properties match.
