Rendering my first movie

I have used movie studio for slide shows but this is my first project capturing video. And it's for my boss (a Doctor) so needless to say I want it to turn out as best I can. I have 1.5 hours all edited and ready to go but I am truly puzzled about where to go from here. I have a combination of some stills, transistions and video. I need to burn to DVD and make at least 10 copies of each disc I create. Is it best to save to hard drive or just make DVD? I have read so many different opinions on the forum that I don't know which to follow. Any advice would be appreciated so that I can complete this project. I have Vegas movie studio + DVD on one computer and Movie Studio 3.0 on the other with Sonic My DVD. The simpler the better at this point, so I can get this done. Many thanks to all.

The creation of a DVD is really a two step process:

1) Create the produced movie in Vegas and render an output file.
The output could be AVI or MPEG2.

2) Use the output file in your DVD Authoring program. If you use an AVI file as the input to the DVD authoring program, the program will render to MPEG2.


I would create the MPEG2 file for the DVD first, then use that in the DVD authoring program of your choice. Vegas MS have a great MPEG encoder.

Note that I doubt that you will have room for 1.5 hour of video on one DVD. Normally, you ony get one hour on a disk.

DVDAS allows you to adjust the amount of compression, but I don't know whether it will be enough. If it's not, you could start by preparing the DVD (probably to the best quality) and then use DVDShrink to do the compression. I've no idea what the quality of the finished product would be like, but I've been surprised by how much I can compress DVDs without any obvious problems.

Thanks for the fast reply. I have shortened my video to 1hr and 12 min. I would like to use the main concept encoder that I've read so much about. But what pathway do I use. Do I #1 Save to hard drive or #2 Burn to DVD. If it is save to hard drive, what do I select for Format, and then what do I select for template. Do I need to enter into the advanced render area and change anything there? If I go with Burn to DVD it looks like it will create a .mpg but does it use the main concept encoder to do it. Also will either of these methods be compliant going into DVD Architect. I am reluctant to continue until I understand what is the best way to go. Please keep any explanations simple as I a fairly new at this. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks again!
