Rendering Output file levels

Hello Vegas Fam:

I really need some help to figure this one out:

1) I usually do all my mixes to +3dB output. I would then drop this level on the
master fader (to -3dB) and then add my plugins for mastering (Ozone, waves L1
etc.). This used to work well for me in Vegas 3. I would set the limiter to
0dB, -0.2, -0.3, etc. and then render the file. Once complete the file would
open up in anything, with the 0.1, 0.2, etc., output level I had set at the on
the limiter. The master plugs are supposed to be "post fader". So this all was
fine before.

2) Now trying this out with Vegas 4.0, and all the rendered output files comming
out -3dB no matter what I set the post fader effects to be). I open the files
in other applications, and they are indeed rendered to -3dB level. This is
not the case when I use version 3.0. I've tried drivers, different SW, etc.
I'm just lost at this point as to what this could be. Nothing in the manual
addresses setting output/render levels and such. It also has a diagram
showing the master effects are (and still) "post fader" !!!

Is there some switch or somthing, I'm missing?

Any suggestions from the vegas guru's would be greatly appreciated.

Peace.

Um, why to +3dB ? Risking a bit of distortion there.

Why not set the master slider to zero, and mix aiming at not going over zero. Then you render should be exactly what is shown on the master meter during previewing.

the plugs on the master in Veg4 are pre-fader like they should have been all the time.

thanks G-Wood and Arnar:

However Arnar, are you saying that the signal flow diagram in the user's manual is
wrong? The Vegas 4 manual has a signal flow diagram showing the Master Bus Effects are post-fader ???

I'll try again assuming Effects are "pre-fader" and see what happens.

Thanks a bunch
