Rendering problem

I have just created my first full VF Dlx project. I am trying to render to AVI but everytime VF only renders the first 4:42 of 25min+ project. I watched the preview window during the rendering (on and off) and noticed that parts of the project beyond the 4:42 limit DO appear in the the window, but not in the AVI. The generated AVI is 5.2GB in size. I am using VF Dlx 2.0 (Screenblast version), XP, 512 MB RAM, HD1 32GB free space, HD2 (target for AVI) 50GB free. Anyone know what I am doing wrong or is this a VF bug (and I was hoping that this program was more stable than Pinnacle's products)

I found these posts in a minute or two with the search function. It looks like your media player may not be able to handle AVI-2 files.

Thanks for the pointer, I had not even thought to search for this problem. The answers given seem to clear up the problem, sort of. By unchecking the OpenDML box the AVI file is limited to 2GB - i.e. about 9 mins of video. So to use this I would need to keep all my clips to 9 minutes or less - bummer. Pinnacle Studio creates files over 2GB, and they can be read by other programs without a problem. I guess I was too optimistic in thinking that VF would be the one program to solve all problems :-(

Does anyone know if VideoStudio 3.0 (the upgrade) has the same issue?

I often rendered clips that were hours long or more in VideoFactory 2 and they always played fine. Some of the other posts refer to having other software installed that could be causing the problems. Do you still have any Pinnacle or VideoWave software installed?

I have CAREFULLY reread the links, it could be that I can create AVIs greater than 2GB by turning of the "strictly OpenDML specification" option in preferences. I am currently trying this, hopfully the new file will be readable for all other programs. I will let everyone know.

Yes I have Pinnacle Studio V7 and Expression installed, as well as ArcSoft and MovieMaker 2.0. Hopefully turning off the "strictly OpenDML spec" option will work, so that I do not need to uninstall all other video editing software

Perhaps this has to do with a FAT32 formatted drive. See Knowledge Base #1522

"Keep in mind that when you render video from the timeline, you must render it into 4 GB files as well. By formatting your hard disks with the NTFS file system under Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP Home, or Windows XP Professional, you can exceed the 4GB file size limit."

Thanks jga324, but my HDs are formatted NTFS , i.e. no 4GB limit.

And the answer is:

DON'T turn on "Strictly OpenDML specification" in Options --> Preferences.

After turning this off again (default is off), and rendering my project to AVI, Winodws Media, XP, and other programs had no problem reading all of the file.

Now to upgrade to Movie Studio - 3 Video tracks!
