Rendering Run Around

I am fairly new to Vegas and I am trying to put together a 4-5 minute promotional video for a new product. When I render clips to .mov format, the file is huge(500Mb-1Gb) These are only 10-20 second clips with minimal effects. Are there settings I can change or is there a better format. I am open to all suggestions.

How are you going to distribute your promotional video?

On VHS, CD's, if CD's, as VCD or SVCD, or maybe DVD's?

By the way video files ARE huge. Depending on file format and bitrate some much more huge than others. The worst is uncompressed AVI, but that isn't a choice for distribution.

Number Five needs more input.

I would like to make it a VCD. That seems to be the easiest for customers to use. Any suggestions on a better way(SVCD, DVD). Again, I am open to any suggestions on finishing this project(rendering, bitrate,or any setting etc). It is my first real project with Vegas so all the info I can get will be greatly appreciated.

Is there anyone that can help with this problem?

A VCD is MPEG1, not MOV format. If you use the VCD template for rendering, it will set the correct settings for you.

The quality of the video isnt very good in a VCD. Are there settings I can change to make the video better?

If your DVD player supports it, try an SVCD - I use the default SVCD-NTSC template (render under Main Concept MPEG-2), default CBR, change the DC coefficient to 10, and check Write Sequence Display Extension. For anything less than 30 mins, this has worked GREAT for what I've done, it plays on my DVD player, and other family member's DVD's. When I get a new box, I'll get a DVD burner, but that's a little ways down the financial road...

I would avoid SVCD if you are thinking of distribution. I think it is much less widely supported among DVD players than VCD. I would look to DVD myself, you should be able to pick up a DVD-R burner for around $200 with some diligent web searching.

In my opinion vcd would be the best option....but I dont use VCD tempelate.
You should use the NTSC Dv settings and change the size to 352X240, change the CBR from 1,7,000,000 to 3,7,000,000 and down at the bottom save as Mpeg1..it should give you high quality VCD... I played with it and I am very happy with my VCD quality.
