Rendering stops when making mpeg file

I captured a 22 minute movie (that I edited previously with another program) and am trying to render the file in VV3 to an mpeg so I can burn it to a CD instead of the HI8 tape that it is on now. The rendering process always freezes/stops around the 35-36% range (frame # 14,454 - 14,899). I've rendered mpegs of other unedited DV footage and have had no problems. Could my problem be caused by the fact that this tape was edited previously? That doesn't seem to make any sense but I've noticed that when I play the tape back on the TV with the datacode displayed the datacode goes blank during transitions (fades, dissolves, etc...) and whenever I inserted generated media. The capture process of this footage appears to have gone smoothly. I captured the footage with scene detection disabled since I wasn't going to edit the movie again. I just wanted to convert the HI8 version to an mpeg. VV3 produced one avi file which plays fine from start to finish. Any thoughts as to why only this footage won't render a complete mpeg file?

I am having the same problems. After working on many tapes, Sony DV Camcorder via firewire to hard drive, and converting them to MPEG2 via Main Concept Codec, my computer is now freezing up while rendering a new project. (PIII 800, 640Ram, Windows XP Pro) It will render, after adding titles and other changes, to DV without a hitch. But whenever I try to render via Main Concept MPEG2 it will freeze at some point. (always the same point if tried again ; not the same point if I change what section on encoding) So that rules out a bad frame of video. What the hell is going on?!?!?!

I have not tried to dump in a new project and try again.

Any suggestions??

hey i think i have a solution for you. First, update the mainconcept plugin by downloading the videofactory 2c demo. it has the proper updates in it. then when you go to render your file, change it so that it saves in individual streams (audio and video). once rendering is complete, simply remux it with tmpgenc. i had a similar problem that bugged the crap out of me, but i finally found this solution.

It could be a problem with your motherboard's power supply. I had lockups on rendering before, and increasing the voltage going to the CPU in the BIOS fixed that problem.

What's probably happening is while rendering, you are pushing your CPU to the limit, which is when it requires most juice. If it doesn't get enough power, the machine will lock up.

If you don't know how to change the voltage to your CPU, let me know, I'll explain step by step.

well the voltage issue is a possibility but i would allmost bet money on the mainconcept plugin. the lock ups are a known issue with mainconcept's mpeg2. especially when using non standard bitrates. i worked on a project for a week till i realized it was that goofy plugin. it would allways do it with a particular frame, and then just freeze up.
