Rendering templates

Hi,
I have Vegas 10e 64 bit on Windows vista...I wanted to create a new template as described here:

http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=4&MessageID=781241

Going in the Vegas 10 help menu, I can't access the document and setting folder (Access Denied)..and yes I am the admin and have show hidden files.
I then tried to go by users/myname/appdata/local/sony ...but I don't see any Render Templates directory (even went to Vegas Pro/10.0)

I also did a search on *.sft2 and no results were found.
SO I have this template that John created called:
Blu-ray 1280x720-59.94p, 15 Mbps video stream.sft2
and I can't put it anywhere...

Any suggestions besides creating one from scratch (and prone to my typing errors).

I never used Windows Vista, but I suspect the issue has something to do with User Account Control. It's supposed to be somewhat easier in Windows 7 since the OS pops a password entry dialog where ever you happen to be. When you are moving files, you shouldn't have any applications open that might lock the files or folders. If exists on Vista, you might try booting into Safe Mode as the actual Administrator. It all seems pretty heavy-handed for that type of file movement. I didn't have to do any of that in Windows 7.

When I absolutely, positively can't crack the rights issue, I boot from the GHOST 15 CD and use the Explorer there. I wouldn't recommend it for everyone, though.

"I also did a search on *.sft2 and no results were found."

I don't know how Redmond screwed it up or what I'm supposed to learn after doing file managment in Windows for 25 years but I get nothing when I use the Search in Windows 7, either. I think I'm too old to want to know. I downloaded a program called Agent Ransack that makes it work as it used to.

I'm in need of a vacation. Maybe, I should drive over from California and do it for you. We've had lots of days over 100 degrees until yesterday.

I think John is probably right; disable UAC completely in Vista.

Thanks for the inputs....Disabled UAC, rebooted and still can't access the folder.

I think that the document and setting folder is really a symbolic link and not really there...but one must go thru the users/name/.... way, but where is the custom templates stored so I can verify?

Thanks for the search tip John, I downloaded the Agent..

Using Agent Ransack, Find the folder that contains the .sft2 extensions by entering the search argument *.sft2 with the C: drive as the target.

When Agent Ransack finds the location as
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Sony\Render Templates\mpeg2-mc\filename.sft2

Right-Click on one of the found files and take the first option "Explore here..."

You will take the symbolic link to the actual location and a window will open.

Drag the new templates into the window.

This works on Windows 7.

In spite of my reluctance to configure the new Search tool, if you configure it by searching of "Indexing Options" and follwing the link, Windows Search will work the same way. Sometimes I get indignant that I have to learn a different way of doing something I've done so long.

Okay found it!

I'm not sure why a simple windows search doesn't find the location, but a 3rd party software does.
Thanks..I'm good now :)
