rendering text = interlace effect

slave1director wrote on 7/19/2004, 1:23 PM

Hi all,

I just tried to play around withe the credits of one of my project, i tried to create credits with text generated media instead of the credit roll included in Vegas.

I applied a couple of effects to it : jitter (in the film look effect) , a gaussian blur also. I also applied some moving effects both with the placement in the text media and paning and croping with it(which quite redundant you will say and you are right

The media is a simple white text on black background by the way.

Now when i render it all i get is blurry interlace text (while it is moving) I tried to remove all effects but it is still the same result.

Any ideas ???

Thx

Phil

Do you still have effects on the Event or Track level that you might have missed? Either event or Track FX button green in color? Did it look correct before you applied FX?

Hi Spot,

Yes the effects are only on the event , although one of the track has the effect button push in , only to apply broadcast color though. The other one doesn`t (so far i only got 2 events)

Actually it kinda looked interlace before rendreing it.

Hope this is the info you needed.

Thx Spot

Which way are you moving the text: left/right or up/down?

left / right

Oh. That might not be fixable. Infact, I belive that it's not interlace but just the way things are. :)

If you watch "matrix reloaded" or "i, robot" you'll see that all left/right movement is blurry. It's the way it's displayed on screen i belive (or our eyes... i forget!)

Could you post a screenshot? Also, is it moving fast (ie crosses the screen in a few seconds) or slow (like a text scroll)?

Render RIGHT/LEFT then reverse . .see if that works .. .

There's been a reply here for mayby as much as a year ago (more?) about the relation between moving items (text in particular, due to its usually straight lines) and the "TV lines". As far as I can recall, the speed of the text may not correspond favourably with the redrawing of the screen. If that is the case - experimenting with varying speeds may solve the problem. Sorry I can't repeat the explaination more in full (memory fade-out) but a search might do you good. I do recall that the thread never got around to giving a useful and safe formula for the scroll speed. Probably not possible.

If you've started with a still image with you're applying pan/crop to try turning on Reduce Interlace Flicker. Right click media on the TL and look under properties.

Also how are you viewing it?

On the PC monitor you should see interlace artifacts, you will not see these on a video monitor/TV.

Hi all ,

Ok so Happyfriar : i'll try to post a screenshot

Grazie : How the heck i am suppose to do what you suggest HIHIHIHI (no seriously)

Tor: thx for for your input

Farss: no i am not playing with a still image and yes i am watching it on my monitor , my TV fried a couple of weeks ago and i got no money to spend on a new one

Thx to all , i guess i have some trials and error to make now.

See ya

got a DVD player & a TV on that? I don't have a firewire camera so I burn stuff to DVD & check it out hat way.

"Grazie : How the heck i am suppose to do what you suggest HIHIHIHI (no seriously)"

1 - Render a test of the txt crawling in the way that you DON'T get this effect .. so that'll be Left>Right .. yeah?

2 - Put this rendered Left to Right back up on the T/L.

3 - Insert a Velocity Envelope.

4 - Set Velocity Envelope to -100% [ this equates to well .. 100% in reverse - the opposite direction! ]

What happens? HAS the "effect gone away?

Sometimes .. just sometimes after I've tried all sorts of things I just render what I've got and then apply another effect .. . I try and build stuff .. thinking that too much math is TOO much!

Regards,

Grazie

Hi

Grazie: no the effect didn't go away.

There must be a way to render interactive text that will look nice and clean ???

Any other ideas

I also tried to make a TS file and drop that into a dvd player but still the same thing

Thx

ps: i even tried playing with the credit roll and all i get is the same effect. Surely the engineer at Sony didn't put an option that will always have bad results.
