Rendering Tiff files as mov problem HELP

Konrad wrote on 3/21/2008, 12:47 PM
I have 4 Tiff files on the time line Vegas 8 Vista. That is the whole project.

When I run thru the project the image changes every 4 seconds.

If I start a new project and drop the render mov on the time line all is well when playing with Vegas

When I play the mov in Apple Quicktime player the slides do not change the whole thing plays on the first tiff and the closing frame is tiff 4 without sign of 2 or 3.

HELP Thanks

What Quicktime Codec did you use to render the file.

I was using 7.4

What's interesting is the KB article 2749 here which does come up if you sear Vegas Pro 8 for "MOV" says to install QT 7.1. Did that and on launch got an error message that Pro 8 needs minimum of 7.1.6 which the KB article indetifies as one of the problem releases.

Not sure which version of QT to install ???

Thanks

What settings did you use to render the file?

Sorry, although the version might be important, it is more important ot know what CODEC and settings were used to create the QT files. QT is only a wrapper and can contain many types of video files. A video file can be compressed to many different codecs including DV, H264, MPEG, etc.

Do you know which you used?

I used the default which is "none".

So you made an uncompressed QT file. The problem here is that an uncompressed file requires a lot of horsepower to display full resolution on a computer. Chances are the QT file is fine but QT is unable to play it in real time. Vegas is using a scaled down version to play and is probably skipping frames, you just don't notice it.

What is the end product, TV display, computer display, web?

Dave,

Thank you for your help. See Update Below.

The end product is as big as it gets, a Christie projector in a movie theater. The project is one of those local business ads before the trailers start. Specs below.

I tried an AVI and it rendered fine but nothing would play it other than Vegas. Also it was a small 144 MB file and the render said it was an intermediate.

Any help most appreciated. It does not help me deliver but I can create a M2T that works just fine.

UPDATE Thanks for the help.

I'm on my home machine using Vegas 7.0e and QT 7.3.1.

This worked.

I tried the best quality render MOV template for 3Mbps changed frame size to 1280x720 that defaults to Sorenson Video 3 codec. Left the defaults alone. The default bit rate is 360 KMbps . Quality was OK but not great, one picture started fuzzy then got clear.

Which is the best Codec to select in MOV for HD? Is it possible to use H.264 at 1280x720?

Thanks.

You can use about any compression, but according to your specs you listed, they want it UNCOMPRESSED. Which means you want the NONE compression.

Dave,

To confirm I took the uncompressed 720P MOV and "exported" from QT Pro as an MP4 at 30000 Kbps at 720P. Quality was very good and the file shrank from 1.16 GB to 1.99 MB. While not as good the uncompressed MOV the H.264 MP4 is amazing given the drastic compression. My first H.264 try with default bit rate was not as good, but boosting the bitrate to 30,000 Kbps did not balloon the file size.

I'll be submitting the uncompressed MOV. Once I had the problem isolated (QT Player was only showing the first and last frame as Dave suggested) I found no problems rendering with 7.4.1 QT.

It's been a great education, Thanks,

Konrad
