Rendering to Quicktime problem

Jan_Cannon wrote on 10/17/2011, 11:29 AM
I am using Vegas Pro 10.e, 64 bit and am trying to render to Quicktime 7. I have a minute and a half of content and have definitely selected a loop region to render. The problem is when I start the render I immediately get a message saying "Rendering complete." The file I get is 1kb and is an .mov.sfl if that indicates anything. I have no problem rendering to an .avi but nothing is happening with Quicktime 7. Any ideas? Thanks.

What version of Quicktime is installed.
What are your render properties?
Quicktime for Windows does not support anamorphic.

I'm using QT 7.7.
I'm rendering with the default template (uncompressed).
Thanks.

What are your source media properties? Have you matched media settings?
What are your Project properties? They affect the default template.

The media settings and project properties are the same: 1920x1080, 29.97 fps, progressive scan, square pixel aspect ratio.

Maybe there's another type of file I could render to? I just need this to go on a Final Cut timeline which the television station that is going to air it uses.

Thanks.

If the station has Avid DNxHD installed, download it and use that.
It's probably the most trouble-free cross platform solution.
RGB codecs like Uncompressed MOV sometimes introduce colorspace errors on the trip from Windows to Final Cut.

Try to render with a different name. Once you start a QT render from Vegas and it crashes, it saves a temp file with the name you used. When you start another render, it won't overwrite that file.

Just an idea.

I'll check that out. Thanks.

Thanks for that idea but I tried it and still no luck.

I downloaded the codec and selected it when I tried to render to QT again. I still had the same result though, no rendering. Is there another way or step that I'm missing?

Thanks.

Then I'd give it 99% it's a Quicktime issue since you have also tried DaveT2's suggestion.
See Nick Hope's posts near the bottom of this thread. There is anecdotal evidence that rolling back your Quicktime version may help, even with Vegas Pro 10.

I installed the earlier version of QT 7.6.2, as per Nick Hopes suggestion, but I still couldn't render to the .mov file in Vegas 10. I later upgraded to Vegas 11 though and I am now able to render.

Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions.

i'm having this very same issue with vegas pro 11, can you confirm the version of Quicktime you are using is still version 7.6.2?

have u tried rendering to a different hard drive?

i had same problem with QuickTime (in Vegas 9 or 10), found out permissions had been changed on my render drive, and when i changed them i could render again.

try rendering a short clip to different drives and see what happens... also try rendering in 32-bit if you've been using the 64-bit version of Vegas

I had it working with 7.6.2 for 1 render. Now it doesn't work so I just went back and installed the latest QT, 7.7.

Since I use Cineform files I thought another solution would be to just rewrap the .avi in a .mov container but I have run into some problems there. Cineform is working on a solution.

My original goal was to give a television station something they could put on a Final Cut timeline. Since none of my pc to mac attempts worked I ended up sending them an avi rendered with Cineform and included the free Cineform codec for mac. I think it worked for them. I got the hard drive back today and assume that if there had been a problem they would have let me know!
