rendering to VHS

I'm very new to Vegas:

I rendered my picture project to .AVI (which is 17 minutes and approx. 3.5Gig in size).

I want to record this on VHS tape. Not sure of the best way.

I played the .AVI file on my computer (full-screen) and connected the video out (of the graphics card) to the VCR's "video input". Also connected the audio cable.

This worked but I lost some video quality.
Is this a dumb way to record onto VHS tape?

-or is there a much better way to do this without loosing video/audio quality?

Thanks for any help!

The best way is to use the firewire output from the computer.
This then needs to go through a D/A converter. You can use most DV cameras for this or a D8 camera.
Alternatively if you only want to PTT then you could use the Canopus ADVC-100.
If you will need to capture from VHS as well I'd recommend spending some extra money and investing in the AVC-300.
