Rendering video gets stuck

MemoriesFX wrote on 1/6/2010, 9:20 PM
I am rendering a 5 minute video that keeps getting stuck at the same point where there are 4 video tracks with clips that are set up as a split screen with 4 vertical split screens. My computer is running XP Professional and is a duo core 2.66 with 2 gbs ram. The media is stored on an external hardportable hard drive connected through a USB port. I had started the edit on my laptop and that is why the media is stored there and then transferred the prject to my desktop. I am using New Blue Essentials plug in to create the split screens. The project is set up as 1280X720 and I did get one complete pass when I rendered it to 720X480 widescreen avi but there was a lot od motion lag in the video so I tried rendering it again with new settings but it keeps getting stuck. Any help would be greatly appreciated

What kind of media are in the project? Especially at the point where it gets stuck?

The media in the project is mostly HDV captured from a Sony camera along with high res stills and some generated media from within Vegas. The place where it gets stuck there are 4 HDV video clips on 4 tracks, one on top of each other and I am using split screen effect via New Blue plug in. I have wst up the project as 1280x720 and tried rendering both as an mp4 with that ration as output and as n avi file at 720X480 widescreen. Thanks for your help.

Steve, this isn't a solution but rather a tip for troubleshooting. Create a small loop around the problem spot and disable three of the four HDV video clip tracks. Try your render. If it works, enable one of the remaining tracks. Continue this until it hangs. If it is a bad clip, this will help you identify it.

What are the size and format of the stills you are using? Please be specific.
What version of Vegas Pro are you running?
Did you try disabling all effects and seeing if it renders?

Thanks, I will try this now and report back

The stills are jpeg and 10 megs. But it is not freezing at the stills. I am running Vegas 9. I will try Jerry's suggestion first which means diabling the effects at the same time and see what happens.

10MB each? That's asking a lot.

If the other suggestions don't work, convert your jpegs to .png at no more than 2K vertical resolution and try again.

Thanks. I am in the process of rendering with only one clip of the 4 on the timeline. So fat it is working but now I am getting video that is rendering with some visual line running through, mostly where there is camera movement but it is not shutter is not shutter roll. Oh and also now I lost the audio. Can't figure this out

I tried putting only one of the clips at a time on a track and it does render each time. When I combine all 4 tracks the problem comes back. I will now try using only 3 and see what happens.

Steve, I think from your original post you had the four clips in parallel on four separate tracks. The easy way to render only a single clip is to click the "!" icon on the track header. That track will then be the only one that plays/renders. If it works, leave that one the the "!" clicked, and click "!" on the next track. Repeat until you find the culprit. Oh, and also, can create a small selection around the area of interest and so that you only have to render that small section. The whole test for four tracks should only take a few minutes. HTH.

Thanks. I reduced the split screen to 3 tracks instead of 4 and now it is working, although when I render as an mp4 1280X720 I get lines running through the video wherever there is camera movement. When I render to 720X480 widescreen I do not have this problem. Any thoughts on this? Thanks again for all your help. Now I can send it to the client for review.

I have succeeded in rendering using 3 tracks of video for the split screen effect rather than 3. However it still does not look right in 1280X720 mp4 because of jittery lines when camera is moving. An mp4 720X480 looks better (lines are less visible) but is you look closely they show.

Steve, can you post a short clip showing the problem - I'm not sure what the jittery lines are.
